I used to want to change the past, undo the mistakes etc. Then I realised that right now I am living the 'past' of my future and therefore CAN change it for my future self by what I choose to do now. Convoluted, yet reassuring once it makes sense. Do try it. Hey you're a teacher at heart, or at least on your blog, and I'm sure you'll both teach and learn great lessons from this exercise!
